Funny

@elijahmanor Got any good links on subcontrollers in MVC like Palermo outlined? Up for lunch (on us) this week to discuss?
212 days ago by @tommynorman

@TommyNorman I've not used @JeffreyPalermo's SubControllers. @StevenSanderson's Partial Requests also interesting http://j.mp/66lnBp
212 days ago by @elijahmanor

@elijahmanor To be fair, I don't use SubControllers much, only in special situations.
212 days ago by @jeffreypalermo

@jeffreypalermo Do you find that you are using RenderAction & Action instead? What type of special situation for SubControllers?

@howard_dierking That must be a bug in SQL Server. Which version are you using? ;)

@mkennedy LOL - 2000 express I think?? :)

[update: It looks like the original article might have moved - the link in the first tweet doesn't seem to take you to the ORM article. I could be confused...]

There was quite a conversation today on Twitter about a blog post by Rob Conery! Here's the original post and the ensuing Twitter fun. See what you think about it and join in the conversation.

Happy Holdays to all! In case you're wondering - I have only one wish for Christmas: that ORM's would go away: http://bit.ly/80VfJi
215 days ago by @robconery

@robconery Wishing it won't make it so. Data Access is never trivial regardless of whether you use an OR/M or not.
215 days ago by @RickStrahl

@RickStrahl Of course it is - WE make it not trivial.
215 days ago by @robconery

@robconery Your example of rails is not really realistic given that rails fails on anything that doesn't fit table == object metaphor.
215 days ago by @RickStrahl

@RickStrahl Not realistic? It's sitting right in front of me! Meh whatever - this conversation is what my post is all about.
215 days ago by @robconery

@robconery Yeah well, if you throw shit out without being a little more specific WTF do you expect?
215 days ago by @RickStrahl

@RickStrahl "throw shit out" - did I touch a nerve with you or something? I thought I offered my thoughts pretty clearly.
215 days ago by @robconery

@robconery Not really - you offered a concept without anything to attach the concept to. IOW, you left me hanging...
215 days ago by @RickStrahl

@RickStrahl Fair enough - post removed. If our conversation is an indicator of comments to come - I'd like to avoid it
215 days ago by @robconery

@robconery Dude you maybe taking this a little too hard. Nothing wrong with new ideas. But you're obvisly thinking about something specific
215 days ago by @RickStrahl

@RickStrahl Yah - you're right. It's super frustrating. Maybe that bled into the post, I thought the ideas were pretty clear.
215 days ago by @robconery

@robconery @robconery i would loathe to do the DTO/Assembler pattern again in a static language with all the built-in support in ruby

Here's a few changes I made to the site today. I hope you find them to be helpful!

Create a lookie from tweets: The biggest is the ability to create a narrative from a set of tweets as well as the ability to install that silverlight app out of the browser. You can expect many improvements on this front soon!.

BTW, you can look at a sample lookie created from tweets: lookatthiswith.me/jho

Install our bookmarklet: Next, I added some work contributed by my friend Jim. We now have a bookmarklet! Click the image to install it:

Links look much better now: Finally, I improved how the editor handles hyperlinks. You can now have pretty links. For example, I could say

Follow me on Twitter: @mkennedy!

(rather than just having http://twitter.com/mkennedy in the message).

Here's a short conversation about getting SilverLight out-of-the-browser working and a few errors I ran into today. Finally I think I have surmounted them all and you can now install the Tweets to Lookie app OOB.

Here's the app:
http://lookatthiswith.me/lookies/fromtweets

@jakkaj Great idea. For now I just put an icon in the top right of the SL part: http://lookatthiswith.me/lookies/fromtweets Still debugging.
217 days ago by @mkennedy

@mkennedy hehe loving the ffox logo :P
217 days ago by @jakkaj

@jakkaj The OOB app needs to nav to a web page. This requires target="_blank" in Document.Navigate.but that doesn't work in Chrome yet. Ugh.
217 days ago by @mkennedy

@mkennedy At least SL4 is being tested against Chrome :)
217 days ago by @jakkaj

@jakkaj Exactly! I thik that's how I'll fix that issue. Wait until March. ;)
217 days ago by @mkennedy

@mkennedy Hehe, excellent
